About:Chinese Temporary Residence Permit

Me and my friend came to china with a tourist and a business visa then we extended the visas for one more month and both became tourist visas, our visas will expire in two weeks, we are studying now but our schools says it is not possible to get a residence permit for students becasue we didn't enter to China with an student visa so we have to leave China and come back on a student visa.
They can give us all the documents, the letter of application of the school where we are studying, form JW201 or JW 202 and the Matriculation Notice, so I want to confirm if this we can or we can not make the students residence permit without leaving China.

Mr.Juan, yes, you have to exit China to apply for a student visa (X visa)in your own country, then enter Chin again, then the school can apply for residence permit for you within 30 days after your entry. Now, all important required documents for visa application have been prepared by the school, it is easy for you to get a student visa at Chinese embassy in Colombia.

May I apply for this student visa from Hong Kong? or is is mandatory to apply from Colombia?, can I mail my passport to my country get the visa there and mail it back to China?

Mr.Juan, I guess that it is impossible for you to get a student visa in Hong Kong, now, it is not as easy as before to get a China visa in HK, you have to go to Colombia to get a Student Visa (X visa), then enter China again, if you just mail back your passport and get a X visa on your passport, however, there is not entry stamp on your X visa, you still have some problems when you apply for residence permit.
