About:China Customs Declaration

I will be traveling to mainland China in a few months with the intent to stay for almost a year. I hope to bring my desktop computer since I will not be on the move and do not own a laptop. Is this something that is a.) allowed into the country and b.) needs to be declared at customs?
Thank you.

Well you will have some problems ..first it will not be carry on so you better pack it really good or it will be smashed around that nothing will be left on the hard drive. second you most likely will have to pay extra cargo for it as you will also have to bring the monitor...I have been there many times and I have a laptop sit it right on the floor by my feet on the plane ..can use it in any airport for free to check emails and other things...also if your not moving around then arrange for the pklace where your staying to include a laptop in the rent ...or just have them arrange for you to rent one ...the cost to get your there and connected will be more than renting one. Have a goo time there .
