The transit is also counted as entry, you transit Beijing airport for 2 times, you need double-entry visa.

thanks for the answer, but my question was not clear enough, i will transit twice through Beijing airport FRA-PEK-NRT then NRT-PEK-ULN without leaving the airport and then on my third arrival ULN-PEK i will enter and stay for 5 days in China, all flights with AirChina.
given that the following from the China Embassy in the US webpage holds true:
"Visas are not required of aliens who hold air tickets to the final destination and have booked seats on international airliners flying directly through China, and will stay in a transit city for less than 24 hours without leaving the airport."

Then I should be fine with just a single entry visa. Who can provide conclusive advice?
Much appreciated, Cheers Tinizong

Mr.tinizong, now I'm clear about your question, if you stay at beijing airport for less than 24 hours and don't leave the airport for the last 2 times, you just need a singl entry visa for you thid time in Beijing. You don't need a visa for your previous 2 times transit in Beijing.
