What is the best possible way to travel from Kunming to Bejing other than flight. Train will be 38 hours, is train clean a bit? How is the bus journey? What is the train and bus fare?

Yes, the train is clean, especially the compartment of sleepers. The train ticket is about 85 us dollars for a hard sleeper berth while 131 us dollars for a soft sleeper berth. BTW, there is no direct bus from Kunming to Beijing, and you need make a connection in Wuhan. It is very time consuming, so bus is not really recommended.
