I would like to go from Kowloon to Zhengzhou by night train on the 20th of March and had heard that there is a direct line, but your search machine doesn't come up with a result (even though it recognizes the names of the cities). Can you please advice if this is a mistake and how I can book the ticket? Thanks,

Yes. There is a train from Kowloon to Beijing which passes through Zhengzhou. Since you are in Hong Kong and it is Mar 12 already, you would better purchase the ticket by yourself in Hong Kong as soon as possible. Train schedule:T98A: Kowloon-Beijing West Railway Station, departure time is 15:00 and arrives at Zhengzhou at 09:15 of the next day.
