Kunming's climate is mild and it is not bad to visit there from March to October, but May-Oct is the raning season. There will be a shows for a shirt time almost everyday. There are many festivals of local minority groups, since March. As I recommend, i think April is fine. No matter you went there in spring or summer, take a warm jacket, for the temperature during a day varies greatly.
