About:Taiyuan Transportation

Hi,
Anyone know if there are train going from Taiyuan to Datong? How long it take to get there by train? Or by Car?

Yes, there are several trains from Taiyuan to Datong everyday. It will take about 6 hours. It is faster to take bus, about 3.5 hours or so.

Thank you for your reply. What about from Datong to Pingyao, I plan to travel from Taiyuan to Datong then to Pingyao. Please advise the duration of travel. Anyone have local contact for MPV vehicle hire with driver, and also hotel information?

Datong is north of Taiyuan and Pingyao is southwest of Taiyuan. Pingyao is much closer to Taiyuan in fact. So, that is better to get to Pingyao from Taiyuan, only 100km. If you want to traveling from Datong to Pingyao, trains are also available. It takes 7 hours or so. If you plan to rent a vehicle, I suggest you get back to Taiyuan and rent a car in Taiyuan. It costs 400RMB from Taiyuan to Pingyao and will take you to the Qiao's Compound and then sent you to the hotel in Pingyao. That is the usual cost, but I do not have a contact of a driver. You may ask the taxi driver or find a travel agent just asking for a car.
