About:How to Travel to China without a Visa

Hi there,

I'm Pakistani nationality holder and currently doing PhD from Australia. I'm travelling to Pakistan around mid of March and then coming back around mid of April. I'm travelling first through cathey pacific (Melbourne to Hong Kong) and then PIA(Hong Kong to Lahore). During departure from Melbourne to Lahore, I'll be staying at Hong Kong airport for 7 hours and on arrival from Lahore to Melbourne, I'll be staying at Hong Kong airport for 3hours. Could anyone please advise me if I need to have transit visa for Hong Kong, even though I don't plan to go outside the airport.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

Farrukh

Hi Farrukh,

You do not need a visa if you are on layover at Hong Kong because you would fall under the "transitory passenger". As stated above:

"The truly transit passengers who hold onward tickets do not require a visa provided that they stay in the transit area and depart within 24 hours."

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards,
MG

Also, So long as you don't plan to leave the airport and go through immigration and customs then visas do not apply. As Visas will be requested at the Immigration Desk.

Mr.Muhammad Farrukh Yaqub, you need a Hk transit visa for the stopover in Hong Kong, All nationals of pakistan (except holders of Diplomatic and Official passports) are required to hold a valid visa for the HKSAR for whatever purpose (including those who are in transit and remain on the airside).
