About:Mount Emei

I will be in Chengdu from 2nd March to 5th March and would really love to go to the Golden Summit at Mt Emei. I am wondering whether it is possible to make a one day trip to Mt Emei and head to the Golden Summit after which I will head back to Chengdu as I have already booked my hotel room in Chengdu. Am I able to use the bus and cable car to get to the Golden Summit instead of hiking as I really want to save time. Thank you.

One day trip from Chengdu to Mt. Emei? Definitely you will have a very hurry trip. It takes around 2 hours from Chengdu to Mt. Emei. And you may spend 1.5 to 2 hours on the way to Leidongping where you can take the cable car to Golden Summit by bus. Then you have to walk 20 to 30 minutes to the cableway terminal and take the cable car to Golden Summit. It takes around 5 minutes.

I am sure that you won’t have much fun at Golden Summit because you have to get back to Chengdu. If you really want to have a good time on Mt. Emei, better reschedule your plan. One day is definitely too short.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. Are there any hotels at the base of the mountain and what is the earliest time that I can set off for Mt Emei from Chengdu by bus?

Mr.Yul,

The earliest bus departs at 7:20 am from Chengdu Xinnanmen (New South Gate) Bus Station. It runs every 30 minutes and the ticket is around CNY 41. You may need to spend more than 2 hours on the way to Mt.Emei.

You can find hotels near the Baoguo Temple but they are a bit more expensive. And there are hostels too.

oh ya, Mr Eric, I can buy the bus tickets on the day of travelling itself right, or must I them buy in advance? And for the tickets to leidongping, must I make any advance purchases too? And what time is the last bus from Mt Emei to Chengdu?

Usually, you can buy the ticket three days in advance. If you have arranged your itinerary, better buy the ticket in advance. As for the ticket to Leidongping, I think you needn’t buy it in advance. And I am sorry that I don’t know when the last bus departs from Mt. Emei to Chengdu. Actually, you can ask the staff in Chengdu Xinnanmen Bus Station when you buy your ticket.
