im a resident of china working for a usa company here in the U S for 2 years. While the company is helping me to secure a green card, my work visa will expire at the end of this month. Is there anything else I need to do in the interim to insure my stay in this country is legal?

Considering of your situation, you might ask your company to help you apply an interim visa before you get your green card. This interim visa can prove that your green card is in process. With this interim visa, you can stay there legally.
