Food: this region is in South Shaanxi Province, where the dishes are somewhat hot and rice is staple food. You could east delicous fish as well.
Weather: the weather is more comfortable than North Shaanxi Province. No hot summer and very chilly winter. Plenty of rainfall.
Transportation: only bus and train could be used. However, it is easy to get to Xi'an, the capital city of Shaanxi, from Ankang by train. There are many trains and flights leaving Xi'an to other parts of China, as well as some other countries.

The weather is fine at that time. Getting warm and not too hot in June. Xiangxi Dong Scneic area is a good place to visit. It is in the south near-suburb of the city. Personally, I think Hanzhou, its neighbor city have more places to see.
