About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Hi,
I got a query regarding visa situations:
My wife is Chinese (with Chinese passport) who lives in Shenzhen and has Australian PR.
My son is carrying an Australian Passport and we are currently trying to extend his Chinese visa so he can stay in Shenzhen.
My wife recently went to the immigration department in Shenzhen to carry out the extension for my son's Chinese Visa and they stated that she needs to cancel her Australian PR (visa) in order to extend my son's visa. They said that this is a new ruling within China.
This is the first time I have ever heard of such circumstances for any country in the world and want to verify if this is correct.
Can you help with the above query.
Thanks & Regards,
David

I haven't read such a news about the issue, but I think that it is true if the immigration department tells your wife.
