Cool but risky. As far as i know, several travel explorer have gone through the desert but not by car. You have to be enough prepared to go through the so called "dead sea".1

Hi!
There are two highways in the desert now. one starts from a place near to korla and crosses its middle and ends in a county named niya in uyghur language and minfeng in chinese.this road is arround 750km total. and another new road is starts from a city named aksu and ends in hotan city . this road is 570km.1
