About:Chinese Embassy in South Korea

I am an American living in South Korea and my wife, daughter and I are flying from Incheon to Hong Kong on Air China with a 4 hour layover in Beijing and the return trip from Hong Kong back to Incheon on Air China with just under 12-hour layover in Beijing once again. If we are not leaving the airport's secure area, are we still required to obtain transit visas? I have heard that we do and read something where we are not required to do so. Need something definitive on this.

yes, you don't need a transit visa for 4 hours layover or 12 hours layover, but you can't leave the Beijing airport.

The flight ticket to Incheon and have booked seats on international airliners are required for the stopover in Beijing airport.
