About:FAQ of Chinese Visa Application

My wife and I are flying from South Korea to Vancouver, Canada and back. We have a 5 layover in Beijing going to Vancouver, and a 16 hour layover in Beijing coming back. Do we need to obtain a Tourist Visa if we do not leave the airport?
