About:Meizhou Travel

Hi,

I'll be visiting Meizhou City, Meixian and Baisha early next year from Canada via Hong Kong. I would like to know the most popular method or mode of transportation to Meizhou city. Most importantly, I would like to find the names and addresses of a few hotels, preferably hakka speaking, in the three places I mentionned. Visiting China for the first time, and your help is very much appreciated.

Hi, Mr. Zeou. I can just help the transporation to Meixian from Hong kong. The direct cross border bus can be found in front of China Intel Travel Service at Java Road, North Point on 7:15, cross boundery bus terminus underground Hong Kong Scout Centre, Austin Road on 7:10, 12:30, 18:10. In addition, you can find te bus in Sha Tin, Sheung Shui, Yuen Lang, etc. It takes about 5 hours. The bus stops at Meixian Bus Station or Huaqiao Dasha (Overseas Chinese Building). It is very close to the city center of Meizhou then. Baisha is a place within Meixian, isn't it? You can take bus or taxi to the place.

Hi Zou, like most places in China, Meizhou enter spring in March and its rainy season will follow later on and last to Sep, generally. Average temperature around the year is about 21C. Its winter is not that cold and in the coldest month, it is average 10C. It is hot from June to August and the average temperature is nearly 28C, sometime, there are days hotter then 35C. Hope this is clear for you to get an general idea.

Mr. Sandy,

Thank for your prompt answers to my questions. We originally, thought of visiting our relatives whom we have never seen in either March or April, 2010. However, I read somewhere that In October, the weather is neither too hot or too cold and that flowers are still booming and fruits are plentiful; Please inform me if this is not the case. In October, we might also attend the world Hakka Conference which will be held in Quangdong, 2010.

Mr. Sandy,
Thanks for your reply of Dec.15th, 2009. Although I understand little Meixian Hakka. I left my birth country in 1960 and has hardly spoken hakka since. I have forgotten many Hakka words and I'm afraid that I might not be able to communicate, understand the language while in Meizou, and Baisha; I may even get lost in Meixian(moiyan) this fall. My question is do you know of any English-Hakka dictionry available. I searched many but to no avail. Also, would I be able to or how often would a person be able to come across an English or French speaking person there?
