About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I am a US citizen and need a China visa. I was wondering if it was possible to obtain the visa while in Chiang Mai or do I have to go to Bangkok? Thank you so much for your time.

You can apply for a Chinese visa in Chiang Mai if you are near to this city. Recently, many applicants in a third country are refused by Chinese embassy or consulate, but I don't think US citizens face the similar situation, Good Luck!
