I am planning to travel to Hong Kong first and then to Quangdong and back via Shenzhen to Hong Kong the next day. As I am a British citizen can I get a China visa in HK or must I apply where I currently reside in the Philippines? Can anyone please advise?

Yes, you can apply for the visa in Hong Kong, through travel agency or by yourself to HK's Immigration administration.
