About:China Work Visa

I was extended an a job offer from a Chinese company. I am an American currently in China on a Chinese "F" Visa that expires on November 24, 2009. I just completed my medical exam on Friday and expect the results some time next week. My prospective employer said that I can sign the contract and begin the work permit application process once the medical exam results are posted and are acceptable. I fear that these results will come after November 24th. Can I remain in China to complete this process, even after my current visa expires or is there something I need to do to get an emergency extension of my visa? Please help! Thanks
