About:China Train

Is it possible to get train ticket same day? We will arrive morning of Dec 23, 2009 in Shanghai and we want to travel by train same day around 7pm to Beijing? 2 adults and 2 kids. Pls advise how to get ticket aside from the expensive booking online?
Also, whats the nicest train from shanghai to beijing? I mean clean and new? Is the fare for children below 8 yrs old the same for adult?
Pls give me a schedule of train with fare.

hi, Ms.J, the train tickets in China would be on sail 10 days prior to the departure date. It is hard to get the tickets on the same day upon your arrival.
The nicest train from SH to BJ is Multiple-Depot train. Here is schedule for your reference:
D308 2110/0725
D306 2115/0730
D302 2120/0735
D314 2125/0740
D322 2135/0745
The first class seat costs RMB542.00 net per person. The child below 1.2 meter can enjoy half price.

Thanks Ms. Thelma, its a very helpful reply. I hope you don't mind to ask some more question; I'm in the Philippines, pls suggest how am I going to get a ticket in advance... Is the RMB542 the soft sleeper? How about the hard sleeper fare?

hi, Ms.J, i'm sorry i don't have a reliable agency that can recommend to you to buy train tickets. You may try to search online. RMB542 is for first class seat, the second class seat is RMB452.
BTW, there are T-trains available, which are more economical. Here is info:
T104 2158/1117
T110 2204/1123
The tiket costs RMB499 for soft sleeper lower bunk and RMB327 for hard sleeper lower bunk.

Thank you for your help. My friend and I are looking forward to taking trains from Beijing to Shanghai, then to Guangzhou and back to Beijing!
