Yes, I think the express train from Guangshou to Hongkong is the most convenient and cheapest way. You can also see more scenery along the way. You can buy the train tickets at the railway station. It is easy to purchase.

You can also take the bus. It will take you a couple hours with no stops until you hit the border. Traveling by bus is a fraction of the cost an air ticket. You'll be speeding along the highway...I can say it's not too particulary scenic, but it interesting. The buses are like the big tour buses, so it's relatively comfortable and clean. Just remember to bring some snacks!

I'm a Canadian that's been living in Jiangmen (2 hours outside of Guangzhou) for the past couple of months and this is the way I travel to Hong Kong. For me it only cost about RMB100 for the trip.

Besides, the bus, I think you can go by boat, too.
