It was built to protect the people in central land from being invaded by northern nomadic tribes in ancient times.

The Great Wall passes ten cities or provinces in China, from east to west, they are Liaoning, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu and Qinghai.
