About:Chinese Embassy in U.K.

I understand that one month Chinese visas are valid for 3 months amd presume that is to date of entry to China. ie if we are going into China on the 23 January, we cannot get our visa until the 23 October

Yes, you are right. Actually, you can apply for the visa before Oct 23, but your visa would expire when you depatture.

Thank you for your replay Mrs Ashley, just to confirm that isf we are going to China on the 23January for 2 weeks we can get our visa now.

Just another quick question, I am currently living in Spain, so have 2 options to get visa. One, go to Barcelona/Madrid (4/5 hours away) and stay in Hotels while it is being processed, or secondly post my passport to the UK to a visa service company and get them to do it, I presume that these companies do a good job and that the passport arrivals back safely

You'd better apply for your visa one month before your trip.
Why not try the Chinese Visa Application Service Center in UK.
