About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

I understand that being a Malaysian passport holder and Singapore permanent resident, I do not require a visa to visit China if I am taking a direct flight from Singapore to Beijing. However, it comes to my knowledge that I may have to obtain a visa as I am going to make a transit in Hong Kong. Given the circumstance, in particular the tight timeline to departure date which is on 10 Oct 2009, could someone please kindly advise, ON AN URGENT BASIS, how best I should address the visit visa issue. Specifically, if a visa is indeed required, can I obtain it upon touching down at the Beijing airport?
