Hi,
I am planning a trip to China. I am exploring the possiblity of visiting Guilan and surrounding areas for maybe 4 days, then flying back to Hong Kong, I have friends there and will spend a few days with them before I head home.
1. Should I fly to HK first? Is there a way to fly direct to Guilan from HK. Or do I have to go to Shanghai.
2. I am traveling alone and hate tours....would like to hire the 50 year old private guide who really can speak English....

Since there is no direct flight from USA to Guilin currrently, you could transfer both at Hong Kong Airport or Shanghai Pudong Airport. Just in terms of your preference!

From the US to Hongkong or Guangzhou first, then, to transfer an airplane to Guilin
