You can call US from your hotel, but the international phone call is expensive. Internet access is available in the hotels, if there is no computer in the hotel room, then the hotels must have business center for clients to use.

Almost all the 4-5 star hotels provide internet access. You can buy an IC card to call from Beijing to U.S. Not very convenient because you have to use the IC phone booth on the street, but it's cheap. You can also from your hotel room directly, but it will be expensive.
