Sure, there are direct trains between. I have been there in this june and an overnight train took me to Xian after my visit in Pingyao. Everything went quite smoothly. Here is the train information: No.1095 20:42/07:20(the next day) & No.2669 23:14/07:46(the next day). The soft berth is about CNY240.00 per ticket.
