You can just apply for the Z visa from the Public Security Bureau (PSM) Exit and Entry Administration office for the municipality.
The documents are:
1. Your passport with blank pages and at least 6 months validity left before expiration.
2. A truly and completely filled application form affixed with one passport-sized photo.
3. A Visa Notification Form issued by Chinese authorized unit.
4. For the accompanying family members, they need not to provide a Visa Notification Form or a Working Permit, instead they are required to provide Proof of Relative Relationship, e.g. Marriage Certificate, Birth Certificate, etc.
5. If you will stay in China for more than 6 months shall provide a Physical Examination Certificate for Foreign Citizen.
By the way, if you apply for a Zvisa dependant on your father, you will be not allowed to work in China.
