You are right that most of the train to hangzhou starts from shanghai south. Shanghai railway staion just has two or three runs. However, shanghai railway station is near to your hotel (about 300 meters). You can go to shanghai railway station and then take the subway line 1 which will take you to the shanghai south railway station (about 11 stops in between)
