I am wondering when approximately the Great wall of china was built and for exactly what purposes

China Great Wall was a large project built from the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC) to Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

It was built to protect the land and people to the south of the wall from being invaded by the northern nomadic tribes.
