We will make our own way from Tianjin port to Beijing. Can you please advise the best way?  We are thinking of catching the shuttle bus from Tianjin Airport to Beijing Airport, and take a taxi to the down??

You do not need to go to Beijing airport. You can take a taxi from Tianjin port to Tianjin railway station, and then take a bullet train to Beijing which runs every 20 minutes. It is quite convenient to get the train tickets. Upon your arrival at Beijing railway station, you may take taxi to your hotel. It is not far.
