Yes, you can take the flight to Shanghai or Xi'an from Yichang, as well as the train. But please kindly note, from Yichang to Shanghai, it will take you about one hour and forty minutes by air, near twenty-three hours by train; From Yichang/ Xi'an, it will take you about one and half hour by air, sixteen hours by train.

There is only one train between YIchang/ Shanghai or Yichang/ Xi'an, and the train tickets are hard to get as they can only be purchased 7 days in advance instead of pre-booked.
