I have seen in several places that China requires all checked baggage to be locked. Is this correct - do I need to purchase locks for my suitcases? The US currently has strict regulations about not having liquids in carry-on bags. Do the same rules apply in China for domestic flights? For example, would there be any problem carrying a bottle of scotch (whiskey) onto a domestic flight?

Yes, it is correct. You'd better lock your baggage to avoid any loss. And, the regulation is the same within China. According to the latest regulations, liquid is not allowed to take along. In this case, to avoid any trouble during your travel, you’d better not take them. You can buy all the things you need in China.
