About:Chinese Embassy in Singapore

My son is a 4 years old Malaysian boy who is Singapore PR as well. He was holding "Residence Permit For Foreigner In The People's of Republic of China" initially. He just renewed his Malaysia passport in Singapore recently. We will be going back to China on 20 Oct 2009. Is there any way to transfer the 'Residence Permit..." from the old passport to new passport? If not, what type of Visa should we apply ? Thanks.
