Question

I will be travelling to Shennongjia in about ten days.  I would like to get information on the best way to experience the natural beauty of the area.  I've been on several tours of mountain destinations in China (Juizhaigou, Kunming) and I'm trying to decide if I should travel with a tour group or make it on my own.  I will be travelling with a Chinese companion, so language is not a problem.  I also would like to know how much time I should stay in the area and what hotels are available.  Any advice will be deeply appreciated.Andrew

Andrew, can you comment on your experience in that area?  I am planning a trip there in about a month.  I have read the camping is not permitted in the reserve.  However I know that the reserve is much larger than that which is officially open via paved road for chinese tour groups.  Did you do any camping or hiking in the reserve or around?  Garrett
