Hi,

I recently married my Chinese wife and we are both going to live in Suzhou, after my wife completed her PhD in the UK. As your wife is a Chinese citizen, you can do the following. Apply for a tourist 'L' visa as normal. You will be given a one month tourist visa. Then, when you get to China, you can go to the Public Security Bureau of the city where your wife is from. Present your passport, tourist visa and translations and original of marriage certificate. You will then be given a 1 year multi entry tourist visa. This does NOT allow you to work in China and you do not qualify for residency. You'll have to renew this every year, but its no problem to do that.
