About:Chinese Embassy in Canada

I have a stopover in Shanghai for approximately 12 hours.
This is to catch my flight back to Canada from Singapore.
Am I able to leave the airport during this stopover? Do I require a Visa?
I was informed in Canada that as long as it is under 24 hours no Visa is required but I want to be certain.
Please advise.
Thank you

Hi! Ms. Wall, It's true that visa is not required for canadian passport holders who transit Shanghai and stay in Shanghai for less than 48 hours (not 24 hours). You can leave the airport during this stopover without a visa.
