About:Chinese Embassy in India

I am an Indian working in a University in India. I have to travel to Beijing for an Inernational Physics conference in mid-August. The organisers have issued an invitation letter. Is this letter sufficient for (F) visa for china or a letter from some china Govt agency/authority is required?
