I have been to Nanning many times and have enjoyed it.
The people are unspoit as it is not real tourist attraction city. The people are very friendly and mostly honest. Most places to visit are a days trip
Pingxiang on the border with Vietnam - many vietnanese wood carvings that Australian customs allowed into the country. There is a beach city called Behai and a waterfall at Detian which is also on the Vietnam/China border. There is a Ching/Ming village that is meant to be link to ancient days. (its not bad) There is a stone forest at Chongzhou much like the one in Kunming but smaller. I have seen both and seeing one means you don't need to see the other. The one problem with Nanning is speaking English, this can be difficult. There is a hot water spa and Yiling Cave, Green Mountain close to Nanning. MMonkeys at Longhu Mountain - There are other place but you will need to ask - they don't think like tourists. There is also an English speaking Bar called the Landing Zone on Minzu Dadao about 400 metres past the Hawaii Hotel (towards the business area).
