I will be traveling alone, and so would also like advice on the safety looking around Shanghai before my tour.

I have been worked in Shanghai for 6 months. I should say that the public security order in Shanghai is good enough for first time visitor and the local people are very friendly and hospitable. Most of them master English here and they are kind to direct you way.
