please advise on the best way to exchange money into RMB.

In the large cities, the best way to exchange RMB is at the hotel you will stay. You may take some amount of Traveler’s check and small amount of cash with you. You can also exchange RMB at the Bank of China. For your convenience, most hotels and shops in major cities accept most international credit cards.
