About:China Train

hi,
I am going to Beijing on 18, July. Would like to spend there several days and then go to Shanghai for a few days. I thought of buying a train ticket now but I am not sure whether I understand it correctly that I can do it one week in advance at the earliest... I would be grateful if someone advised me what kind of train I should take, would be nice if it wasn't very expensive:)
another thing, I thought about going to Hong Kong as well (I am going to spend 2 weeks in China) but I am sure there are more interesting places to see there, more exotic and wild I would say. I would be grateful for any suggestions concerning places which are worth seeing but not too remote from one another. Thanks.

hi, Ms.Kasia.
The train tickets can only be purchased 10 days prior to the departure date. So now i'm afraid you cannot get the tickets in July. There are many trains availalbe from Beijing to Shanghai. For your reference, the following trains are recommended considering the cost and the timing:

Z21 1944/0715
T103 2209/1108
T109 2215/1212

The soft sleeper ticket of upper berth costs RMN478.00 net and it is RMB499.00 net for lower berth.

Regarding the places for traveling, you may consider to visit Xi'an and Guilin in addition to Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Oh hi, I forgot to mention that the Victoria Peak, the Repulse Bay, Aberdeen and Stanley Market are hot tourist sites in Hong Kong. Hope you will enjoy your stay.

There will be a total eclipse of the sun in the Shanghai area in the morning of July 22. If you're interested in seeing it, you can google more info, or go to TripAdvisor.com's Shanghai Forum where it's being discussed in some of the posts.
