Hiya,

Me and a friend want to travel from January onwards (we are UK citizens), but we won't get to China until about May 2010!

We will be out of England at the time we should apply - on our travels, can we get a tourist visa from the Chinese consulate in Japan (or anywhere else in the world?!) before we enter China?

Please help! :(

You can not apply for a tourism visa (L) to Chinese mainland from the Chinese Embassy in Japan. The embassy grants visa only for the aliens holding Japanese long-stay visa( more than one year).

Try to send an email to the embassy of China in Tokyo! I asked them for which kind of visa I could apply and they answered me that I could have a L visa even if I'm not a resident with a long-stay visa (because I'm a holder of a French passport, but I don't know if for the UK it's the same thing... send an email^^)! I have often read that it is easy to have a L visa for China from Bangkok or Hanoi, so if you go there you'll have it! But the easiest, is to go to Hong Kong, there you are sure of getting one. I hope I helped a few... Have a nice trip!
