is it necessary to have return tickets confirmed before going to the embassy for getting

IS it necessary to have return tickets confirmed before going to the embassy for getting 15 or so days tourist visa for China ?if so  then in that case can i make a open return ticktes to put the date of entry in china later on after getting visa   and also is the hotel reservation dates can me made open too  and adjust with the date of travel time .

It is necessary to have return flight tickets confirmed before you apply for the visa.  You can negotiate with the hotel booking agency about the change of accomadating date.
