Well, you can go to Kunming from Guanzhou by train or by air. There are three trains to go to Kunming in a day. However, you have to bear about 25 hours. So long a trip! If you choose to go there by air, of course, you can save more time. But as you know, air ticket is much more expensive than the train ticket. If you do not mind, just take the airplane. You may book the discounted aircraft ticket. 70% discount is quite good.
