About:China Customs Declaration

Me and some friends (6 of us) are apart of a tourist group and we plan on visiting china. We are all hobbyist in photography and each of us have nikons, like d80 and 90. 1 of my friends has a pro-sumer Sony HVR Z1U video camera.

my friend is concerned that he might get his pro-sumer HD camera confiscated :-(


Any advise?

The tax rate is 20%. For example, if your camera costs 10000 Chinese yuan, you should pay CNY2000.

By the way, the exchange rate between American dollar and Chinese yuan is 1 dollar = 6.84 Chinese yuan

If the 6 are not planning to keep the camera in China, they must pay the 20% anyway? I thought Declaration is only if you plan to keep item over 2000 yuan in China?

OR you mean 20% is paid to Customs as deposit and they can get the 20% back when they exit ? I am not clear.
