his fathers name was liu zhijia wonder why they dont have the same last name!!!!!

That's because Chinese names are so different from the westerner's. Their family name is put at the first and then the given name. So, Liu is the family name of Liu Bang. He has the same surname as his father. If you still don't know the details of Chinese names, you can read this page
