About:China Embassy in Thailand

I'm a swiss passport holder. I would like to travel from Laos to shanghai on land.
From there i'll take a ferry to japan.
I'll buy the ferry ticket in shanghai.
Is it enough if I just show a timetable of the ferry and tell them that I cannot buy the ferry ticket online?
Do I really need an invitation?
I heard a that in some countries I cannot apply. I should apply in my home country.
How about Singapore and Thailand?
Does it also just takes 4 days for swiss people?

Thanks alot for an answer

I am not sure if you can apply for a China visa in Singapore or Thailand. Well, it is for sure that you can apply for the visa easily in your country. You can mail your application or even entrust an agency to apply on your behalf.
