Yes, there are many trains from shanghai to beijing and only after one night you will arrive beijing, about 12 hours. So you can visit beijing without waste your time. It's comfort to sleep on the train. The price is about  ￥500 depend on the class you want.

According to the latest news, the Z train (fastest and most comfortable train)would be stopped running from 1st April, it would be replaced by D train which is better and quicker (10hours),
