Firstly, Causeway bay is a great place to shop. If you take care to look around you, you can find escalators that will take you to multiple levels of boutique like shops. These can be found around the very classy department store called 'SOGO' so i'm sure if you walk around you will have no trouble finding some decent shopping destinations.
Also, you'll have no problem maximizing your time as the public transport is quite frequent. The MTR is one of the best ways to get around. It is quite easy to follow and announces the stations in Cantonese, Mandarin and English. There are also the trams but the bus system can get quite confusing.
In response to 'Mr. Hong Kong', I'd say steer clear of Mongkok as it is very busy and only aimed at tourists, which means that it rarely coughs up something unique or special.
